Mutton Keema Curry is a flavorful and spicy Indian dish made with minced mutton and a blend of aromatic spices. This Andhra-style curry is perfect for pairing with parotta, idli, dosa, and Rice. The addition of garam masala and fresh herbs like mint and coriander leaves enhances the taste, making it a delightful meal for any occasion.

Ingredients for Garam Masala:

  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 3 Cloves
  • 2 Cardamoms
  • 1 petal Star anise
  • 1-inch piece Cinnamon stick
  • 2 petals Black stone flower (kalpasi)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fennel seeds

Main Ingredients:

  • 250 grams Mutton (minced)
  • 1 & 1/2 cups Onions (chopped)
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 10 Garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger (crushed)
  • 1/4 cup Tomato (chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder (spicy variety)
  • 2 teaspoons Coriander powder (or kuzhambu thool for thickness)
  • 1 teaspoon Black peppercorns (crushed)
  • 1 & 1/4 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup Mint leaves (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 1 & 1/2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Light coconut milk (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons Oil
  • Extra coriander leaves for garnish

Method:

  • Prepare the Pressure Cooker:
      • Heat oil in the pressure cooker.
      • Add all the garam masala ingredients. Let them sizzle.
  • Saute the Vegetables:
      • Add chopped onions, green chilli, ginger, and garlic.
      • Fry on medium flame until onions turn golden and crispy.
  • Combine and Sauté:
      • Add tomatoes, coriander leaves, and mint leaves.
      • Saute well.
      • Add minced mutton, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and crushed black pepper.
      • Saute until the meat releases its juices and the mixture dries a bit.
  • Cook the Curry:
      • Add water and pressure cook for up to 4 whistles.
      • Open the cooker once done and add light coconut milk if using.
      • Simmer until the gravy thickens.
  • Garnish and Serve:
    • Turn off the heat and garnish with extra coriander leaves.
    • Enjoy your Mutton Keema Curry with parotta, idli or Rice.
